The First Translation Club
Iman High School, in corporation with NEIL (Network of Educational Institutions), has founded the first translation club consisting of four groups which aims at translating a book about Saida history into English in an attempt to have others know about Saida. It is true we are not definitely sure it is the first translation club in Lebanon, but so far we have not heard of any similar club, so if this is the first translation club, we hope it is the starting seed from which other clubs will emerge.
The journey started by forming a committee to follow up with some students who are pretty fluent in both English and Arabic. The committee consisted of Fatima Baidas, Khaled Hasan, May Mansour and Zahra Halabi. The four teachers worked with the students for almost two monthes where they guided them and checked their work. Finally, a competition was held where students were given a text in Arabic and a text in English. Mr. Kamel Kozbar, the school principal, and Mr. Basem Saad, the principal NEIL, awarded all the competitors who received their trophies. Reem Hadka, Hisham Kawas and Natali Jradi who ranked first, second and third received additional financial rewards.
